THE HISTORY OF SLANE CASTLE CONCERTS 1981 – 2013

Slane Concert Image
August 29, 2004: Madonna announced she would take to the stage but the only date she was available to play was a Sunday. The locals of the village of Slane protested to Madonna playing on Sunday because they felt it was inconsiderate to schedule a concert on a Sunday given the large Roman Catholic population. Protesters also stated they feared a repeat of the riots that took place in 1984 when Bob Dylan played on a Sunday but to their disbelief the concert went ahead.

Madonna was supported by:
  • Paul Oakenfold
  • Iggy Pop and the Stooges
